For The Love Of Corned Beef


Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

As a special Thank you to our Blog and Facebook Fans, we are sharing our secret corned beef recipe! For years we have been asked how we make it and why it is so different than what they have had in the past. We have even won Non corned beef eaters over with our recipe! It is always so nice to hear people say “Wow! I never expected it to taste like this!” :)


So what is our secret you might ask? Well, besides being Very Irish, our secret with it is we let the meat cook for hours and hours on high in the crock pot. NEVER EVER BOIL! Boiling corned beef is how it is normally cooked and it is why so many people do not care for it. :(

Making mouth watering Corned Beef is easy and it does not take very much to make it.

1 Crockpot

1 3 to 5 pound Corned Beef Brisket or Round with seasoning packet

1 to 2 pounds of Fresh Carrots

1 to 2 pounds of Red or Yukon Gold Potatoes

1 Head of Green Cabbage

1/2 to 1 cup of Brown Sugar

9 to 13 Hours of Cooking Time

If we are doing a big party and we need to lots, I will cook them overnight. If we are only doing 1, we put it in on high in the morning and let it cook for at least 8 hours if not 10 or 12. We add the veggies in about 1/2 through and let them cook. Once we take the meat out, we put it in a cast iron skillet and then drizzle some of the cooking water over the top. Next we put a layer of brown sugar on top and drizzle a little more cooking water and then another layer of brown sugar. We let it bake in the oven at 375 for about 30 minutes and baste it like you do a turkey with its juices every 10 minutes. Once the meat is taken out of the oven, place it on a serving platter and drizzle the brown sugar glaze over the top. Slice meat against the grain and serve with veggies and mustard or horseradish.

Amazing Detox Bath


There is something so soothing about a relaxing warm bath after a long day.

For years I was one who would take a bubble bath with a bubble bath product from a well known chain store that is famous for after holiday sales. I would stock up on yummy scented bath products thinking I was doing something good and relaxing for my body. Little did I know that the products I was soaking in was loaded with chemicals that are harmful for our skin. :(

Thankfully, I was able to crawl out of my bubble bliss and learn about the health benefits of taking a detox bath. Due to our environment, our bodies are not getting the proper amount of magnesium that we need. Our bodies NEED magnesium to survive, yet our soil is being depleted and the typical American diet severely lacks the amount we need.  I have been doing detox baths for about 3 years now and I am SO GLAD I started doing them. A little over a year ago I started using Young Living Essential Oils for other health reasons and I started adding them to my detox baths. I try to take a detox bath at least once a week, if not more. There are some weeks that I do not get to take one and I really miss it.  I use lavender essential oil most of the time, however, I change it up depending on my mood. If I really want to relax and I am going right to bed after a detox bath, I do a combo of Lavender and Peace & Calming essential oils.

Amazing Detox Bath Recipe

2 Cups of Epsom Salt

1/2 Cup of Baking Soda

10 Drops of Essential Oil

( I only use Therapeutic Grade Young Living Essential Oils)

1 Bathtub of Hot Water ( Not too hot, but not warm)

20 to 30 Minutes of Soaking Time

I like combine the epsom salts, baking soda, and essential oil together before adding to the water in the tub. By adding the essential oils to the epsom salts and baking soda, the oil absorbs into the salt mixture and does not float on the top of the water. As we all know oil and water do not mix, therefore, adding essential oils to the bath water will not be as beneficial as it could be. Once the tub is at your desired soaking level, sit down in and relax for 20 to 30 minutes. After you are finished soaking, drain the tub while sitting in the tub, allowing your body time to rest before getting out of the tub. If you are pressed for time or you do not have a bath tub, you can still enjoy the benefits of a detox bath by doing a foot bath and reducing the amount of products.

Detox Foot Bath Recipe

1 Cup of Epsom Salts

1/4 Cup of Baking Soda

5 Drops of Essential Oil

10 to 15 minutes of soaking time

The above recipes make a great gift for friends and family. I like to make up a few jars during the holidays and have them for just in case gifts. You never know when an unexpected guest will stop by during the holidays and bring a gift. ;)

The health benefits of soaking in epsom salts is quite amazing.

Improved heart and circulatory health, reducing irregular heartbeats, preventing hardening of the arteries, reducing blood clots and lowering blood pressure.

Improved ability for the body to use insulin, reducing the incidence or severity of diabetes.

Flushed toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain and helping the body to eliminate harmful substances.

Improved nerve function by electrolyte regulation.

Also, calcium is the main conductor for electrical current in the body, and magnesium is necessary to maintain proper calcium levels in the blood.

Relieved stress.

Excess adrenaline and stress are believed to drain magnesium, a natural stress reliever, from the body.

Magnesium is necessary for the body to bind adequate amounts of serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of well being and relaxation.

Getting Your Health Back


Recently I had the pleasure of talking with Shari who suffered for years of misdiagnosis’s. She has had to be an Advocate for her own health over the last couple of years. Shari has allowed me to share her story with you to help get the word out for taking control of our own health. I met Shari through a post on Facebook and I am so glad that she has shared her story with me to help me think outside of the box.

“I was a preemie (2 weeks early). Shouldn’t have been that big of a deal, but I was 3 pounds 12 oz and lost weight before ever gaining. I’ve been “sickly” off and on my entire life, but I learned to just deal. Allergies, sinus infections, bronchitis, ear infections, etc. When I was in 6th grade, I got a headache for 3 months straight. It freaked me out, but I never told my mom and just learned to deal. It went away and that was the start of my allergies every fall and spring. In 2001, the headaches started way too soon to be allergy related. After 3 months of a headache that wouldn’t let up, I went to the doctor. My blood pressure was through the roof. 158/118 and it wasn’t the highest reading my doctor got. That was the one she gave me because she didn’t want to freak me out.  Started meds. My weight was normal. I was 123 pounds (5 feet, 5 inches tall). Meds got my bp under control for a while and it would suddenly spike again. 4 years of battling it and no cause was found. She finally sent me for kidney testing hoping I had a tumor on my adrenal gland. No such luck. I developed severe GERD and blood tests for Celiac Disease are positive. (Biopsy is negative…….UGH!) I had wheat and dairy allergies as a child though, so I often err on the side of caution and have cut out gluten most of the time. Still having headaches and after 5 years, I gave up on ever figuring out why. I moved to AZ in 2007 and was sent to a Neuro who diagnosed me with migraines and I tried Imitrex and Topamax. Neither worked. He was puzzled because usually one helps. I moved back to Indiana in 2009 still having headaches. My doc here was fed up and ordered an MRI. Again, no real reason showed up that might explain the headaches. Every. Single. Day. I was a student at college in 2010 and developed a cough that would have me puking. I’d be fine afterwards. After a few months of that, I went to the doctor. Reflux (which I had anyway). Meds for that didn’t help. I got suspicious and wondered how my breathing was. I went to an asthma specialist and my lung function was 79% on a good test.  So I started asthma meds. I had gotten to the point I couldn’t wear sweaters, necklaces, etc. I could only wear V-neck shirts. I finally stopped throwing up all the time. Yahoo!!!!!!!!!! The fatigue set in though. Doc said, you have asthma………..fatigue is normal. Uh………….nope. Wasn’t buying it. By now I am on 11 meds because my asthma doc put me on 5 acid reflux meds because it was my worst asthma trigger. Last, but not least…….I developed chronic fatigue. I was sleeping upwards of 15 hours straight and was still EXHAUSTED beyond belief. I was to the point I didn’t care if I lived or not. I wasn’t suicidal by any means. Just didn’t care…………… A neighbor came over during Christmas 2011 and we got to talking about medical problems and he was talking about sleep apnea and mentioned his symptoms……..much like mine. Huh……….so mom called my doc and requested I be tested for sleep apnea. She really didn’t think that was it, but she agreed. I have moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. My very first night with the C-Pap machine was the best 4 hours sleep I had in over 10 years. I woke up for the first time since 2001 without a headache!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I seriously got my life back and ditched all 11 medications. I am no longer “sickly”. I now get 1 sinus infection a year instead of 4 to 6. The only issue now is seasonal allergies. I am off all asthma meds, I no longer have a constant cough, etc.

I’d so make an appearance on Dr. Oz or another show if I could save ONE person from the hell I went through.

My asthma doc was annoyed that I complained of fatigue. I had thyroid tests done too and my numbers were a little off, but doc wouldn’t try meds. I was PISSED. Today, all blood tests for everything are normal. I guess being sick can skew blood work? My doc apologized to me for not considering it as a cause. Of course, I never thought to mention snoring to a doctor. I’ve snored since I was very young, maybe she’d thought of it had I done that………..but I suspect NOT. My blood pressure runs 115/78 now without meds. I was getting less than 1% of deep sleep a night according to the sleep study results. No wonder I slept 18 hours a night/day, sometimes more. The average is supposed to 30% of deep sleep a night. Early on, I wasn’t sick enough, I guess. The sleep machine is the best investment I’ve ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $1300 paid in monthly installments for 12 months. My sleep study was written off because I couldn’t afford it……….. If people tell you they cannot afford x, y, z…have them fill out financial paperwork with the doctor’s office and/or a hospital. The worst that can happen is that they get turned down………….

Headaches do not usually mean brain cancer. I feel like people are probably afraid docs won’t believe us when we say we have x (headaches in my case) every single day.

Oh yeah… other thing. Looking back on my headaches now…I realize that most days, the headache would lessen in intensity as the day went on. Probably because I was getting adequate oxygen. Headaches rarely went away though.

Once last thing that Shari shared with me was about her friend who has been helped with the use of Vitamin D.

“My best friend was dealing with fatigue and her doc has all his patients do Vitamin D testing twice a year……..hers was from a D deficiency. He put her on a massive dose of it and she’s no longer tired.”

Learn to look for the cause of a medical problem and think outside the box (sometimes) and you’ll be a great nurse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for taking the time to read my story. Shari”

What is in Peace and Calming Essential Oil Blend?

There are five different oils in Peace and Calming Blend. They are listed below along with a brief description of each oil.

• Ylang Ylang Essential Oil (Cananga odorata) increases relaxation; balances male and female energies. It also restores confidence and equilibrium.
