Amazing Facial Scrub!

IMG_4391

Wow!

I am so happy to say that my At Home Spa Treatment blog post from last year has been amazing!

The original blog post has been pinned on Pinterest hundreds of times and it is the most viewed post on our blog!

I have been using this recipe for a little over a year now and my face has NEVER been Better!

No more breakouts or dry skin!

Yay Me!

So let me get on with the “How-To” of making an Amazing At Home Spa Treatment!

At Home Microdermabrasion!

Yes, I said that correctly Microdermabrasion!

You will need virgin coconut oil, baking soda, and pure essential oils.

See Simple ingredients! :)

I only use Young Living Essential Oils as they are Safe, Therapeutic Grade, Organic, and simply The Best oils we can use in or on our bodies.

The recipe can be doubled, tripled, or multiplied many times.

It is a simple 2:2:2 ratio of coconut oil, baking soda, and essential oil.

If you do multiply the recipe always remember increase

the essential oils to ensure the correct ratio.

2 Tablespoons Virgin Coconut Oil

IMG_4388

2 Tablespoons Baking Soda

2 Drops Frankincense Essential Oil

oil-bottle-large-frankincense

( I use Frankincense, but Lavender, Helichrysum, and Geranium are also wonderful for our skin)

In a small bowl combine softened (not melted) Coconut Oil with Baking Soda into a paste, then add essential oils and mix throughly.

The recipe makes enough for 2 to 3 weeks of treatments and can be used in the shower with great ease.

That’s It!

IMG_4390

Now you have just made your own at home

Microdermabrasion treatment!

Now, How to Use your homemade Microdermabrasion treatment.

Whether you are in the shower or in front of your sink, you will want to use this treatment on a wet face, not dry.

First wet you face with warm water, use a small amount of the mixture and begin to massage your entire face, throat, and décolleté with small, circular motions in the upwards direction.

You do not need to scrub the mixture, the baking soda will exfoliate for you without having to scrub.

I follow this treatment up with a homemade mixture of coconut oil and frankincense oil or my New Favorite Essential Beauty Serum!

This treatment is also great for rough elbows and dry hands and feet.

It truly is simply amazing!

In fact I did not give it much thought after I posted it on Jared’s Facebook post.

But, thankfully something told me to check Facebook and there was MY name on Jared’s post announcing the winners of his contest!!!!

Happy Nurses Week!

10321707_658448884209678_662716904684103924_o

I am so happy to say that I am half way through my RN program!!!

This past year has been amazing and I am so blessed to have been able to do all of the things that I have this past year!

This time last year I was stressed and I was putting in my 2 week notice at work to go to school full-time.

I never thought that leaving a secure career of over 16 years would be so hard, yet so rewarding at the same time!

As soon as I left my job and started focusing on school and my new adventure into essential oils, things started to take off!

I have never worked in the medical field and getting my foot in the door in a hospital has been on my mind for months!

In March of this year I applied for a volunteer position at one of our local hospitals (one I dream of working in someday) and I started volunteering within 2 weeks of applying.

My position as a volunteer is giving me great patient contact, as well as contact with the RN’s on the unit.

I knew that the hospital was working on an essential oils program for their patients and I am looking forward to learning more about it.

This week being Nurses Week, I have been asked to help out with Spa Day for the nurses and share my essential oils for stress and relaxation with them.

I am very honored to be able to do this as a volunteer, but also as an RN student!

Spa Day

I know that the next year of school is going to go by just as fast as the first year did if not fast and I am so ready to be out on the floor with my fellow RN’s!

Speaking of fellow RN’s, I am so happy to have been able to network with some amazing RN’s and I am honored to be featured on Nurseborn.com this week for Nurses Week!

Click HERE If you would like to see my feature and take a look at what might just be THE BEST Stethoscope Holster (on my wish list for sure!) I have ever seen!

May ~ Valor Amaze You!

oil-bottle-large-valor

Backaches are NO FUN!

Thankfully, we have an amazing essential oil blend that is WONDERFUL for backaches!

I have been using Valor for my sore lower back the past few mornings after scrubbing our rental home to get it ready to sell.

I like to keep a bottle with a rollerball on the top for easy application on my lower back.

A few rolls of Valor on my lower back in the morning is all I need to be pain free all day and keep going with my busy schedule.

I know once I am working full-time again as an RN, Valor will be a wonderful essential oil for me to use!

Valor can be used for any back related conditions, including scoliosis and pain.

Valor Essential Oil is known as “Chiropractor in the bottle” and it has been given that nick name because it aligns our physical, mental and emotional bodies electrically in the body.

When this happens we are given the courage to take on new things and we are better able to release old patterns that are not working for us.

The smell is very soothing and calming!

Valor Essential Oil is a blend of  four different oils with a carrier oil of Sweet Almond Oil.

The oils are listed below along with a brief description of each oil.

Rosewood Essential Oil (Aniba rosaeodara) has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. It is emotionally grounding and relaxing.

Spruce Essential Oil (Picea mariana) has anti-inflammatory properties and helps us combat infection. Emotionally, it is grounding and releasing.

Frankincense Essential Oil (Boswellia carteri) has anti-depressant and immune stimulating properties. The high sesquiterpenes level stimulates and oxygenates the limbic system of the brain which elevates our mood and helps us relax (overcome stress).

Blue Tansy Essential Oil (Tanacetum annuum) has anti-inflammatory properties, and may help cleanse the liver and the lymphatic system. It helps us release anger and negative emotions that are holding us back.

Carrier Oil – Sweet Almond (Prunus dulcis)

Valor is 1 of 10 essential oils that comes in the Premium Start Kit from Young Living.

Lavender Air Freshener!

IMG_2368

Life can be Stinky!

Thankfully, we have natural ways to freshen the air!

For years we used the “Air Fresheners” that you shake on the carpet and vacuum up without any thought of WHAT the product was made from. Since moving to our farm house almost 3 years ago, we have been trying to “clean up” our chemical use and use more all natural products. I have to say that the thought of changing products we had been using for years was mentally hard, but not difficult. The more labels I read of the products we had been using for many years, the more I knew we had to make a change for the better. We get our water from a well on our property and we have a septic system for the treatment of our waste water. Knowing how these systems work, I knew I had to do something to reduce the amount of chemicals in our home and daily life. About 2 years ago we began making our own laundry soap instead of buying big containers from the big box stores. Making our own products has now turned into a passion to see what we can make and stop purchasing from the big box stores. Recently I thought I would try to make a new air freshener for our guest bathroom and it turned out GREAT! The best thing about it is that it can be made different ways  and it can be used different ways! Not bad for a simple 5 minute project that is 100% chemical free! :)

Lavender Air Freshener Recipe

1/4 to 1/2 Cup of baking soda

1/4 to 1/2 Cup of dried lavender

10 to 15 Drops of Lavender Essential Oil

1 Glass container or mason jar

Mix baking soda and dried lavender together, add lavender essential oil and mix well. Place into a glass container or mason jar with holes (I found mine at Target in the dollar bin) in the lid. Place in desired area and enjoy! Add 5 to 10 drops of lavender essential oil every couple of weeks as needed.

Lavender Carpet Freshener Recipe

1 Cup of baking soda

10 Drops of Lavender Essential Oil

1 Glass container or mason jar

Mix baking soda and lavender essential oil together and allow to blend together overnight before using. Sprinkle on carpet and vacuum as you would other carpet fresheners.

April ~ Lavender & It’s Many Uses

Wow!  It is already April! Where have the first 3 months of 2014 gone? Things around Green Eggs N Glam have been a little more than busy the last few months and we keep getting busier. I began my second year of nursing school in March and somehow I thought only having my medical-surgical class  this quarter that I was going to have less stress. Boy, was I ever Rong! (inside joke of the spelling of wrong! Check back for more on why I use the spelling Rong!) ;)

oil-bottle-large-lavender

Lavender essential oil has been a lifesaver around our farm house the last year! We will NEVER be out of Lavender around here. As many of you know I am in nursing school and my husband is a firefighter-paramedic for The City of Sacramento. We live on 4.5 acres that need lots of work and we are always doing something in the yard or in the shop. I use lavender daily for many different things. Lately, I have been using it in my homemade deodorant every morning and in my diffuser at night to help me sleep through the night. We also use it on scraps, cuts, and burns.

Last summer my amazing hubby purchased a golf cart that needed work to use on the property and get from the shop to the house or barn faster. (boys and their toys) He is always working on things in the shop when he is home and I never question what he is doing since I am normally in the house with my nose in a medical book of some sort. Well, I guess I should have questioned the golf cart and some of its safety issues. I now know why exhaust systems should have covers on them so you cannot touch the hot exhaust pipe! Needless to say the golf cart DID NOT have the cover on it like it should over the exhaust pipe and my hubby burnt his hand badly on it. Not Once, But Twice! And in the SAME PLACE! The first burn was small and we applied lavender essential oil on it right away when he burned it. But, the second burn a week later was MUCH WORSE! Luckily he knew what oil to grab when he burnt his hand for the second time since I was on my way home from school the day he burnt his hand. We applied Lavender essential oil on his burn about 5 or 6 times the day he burnt his hand. Over the next couple of days we continued to apply lavender on the burn and the blister that popped up the night of the burn. After about 4 days of applying lavender on the burn and keeping it covered and clean, the blister started to release the fluid. We continued to apply lavender to the burn area over the next few days and after about 9 days we could not tell the skin was burned. After  9 months later you would NEVER know he burned his hand! :) Now I wish I would have taken pictures of the burn and after it healed, but we didn’t think about it when it happened. Hopefully, there will not be a next time to take a picture, but if there ever is, I will make sure we get some pictures.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is the most versatile of all essential oils…often known as the ‘Swiss-army knife of oils’ it’s benefits often considered limitless.
