The Hidden Dangers of Popular Weight-Loss Drugs: What You Need to Know

The Hidden Dangers of Popular Weight-Loss Drugs: What You Need to Know

In the quest for effective weight loss, a new class of drugs has taken the world by storm. Ozempic, along with its counterparts Wegovy and Mounjaro, has been hailed as a game-changer in the fight against obesity. But behind the promises of rapid weight loss lie some potentially serious side effects that could turn your journey into a nightmare.

Here are five side effects of these drugs that you need to be aware of:

1. Gastrointestinal Issues

One of the most commonly reported side effects of these medications is gastrointestinal distress. Users often experience symptoms similar to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), including severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain. Studies show that those taking semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy, face a threefold increased risk of stomach paralysis and a fourfold higher risk of developing intestinal blockages, which may even require surgical intervention.

Additionally, due to the slowed digestion and delayed stomach emptying caused by these drugs, there’s a risk of regurgitation during surgery. This can lead to the accidental inhalation of stomach contents, a potentially life-threatening situation even after fasting.

2. Hypoglycemia

While Ozempic and Wegovy are designed to lower blood sugar levels to aid in weight loss, this can sometimes lead to hypoglycemia or dangerously low blood sugar. Symptoms of hypoglycemia include dizziness, confusion, loss of balance, fainting, and seizures, all of which can lead to falls and injuries. This is a particularly concerning risk for those without diabetes, who may not be accustomed to managing low blood sugar levels.

3. Pancreatitis

The use of these drugs has been associated with a ninefold increased risk of pancreatitis, a serious and potentially life-threatening inflammation of the pancreas. Pancreatitis can lead to long-term digestive issues and is also linked to an increased risk of pancreatic cancer, a disease that often has a poor prognosis and high mortality rate. In some cases, pancreatic cancer can be fatal within just a year of diagnosis.

4. Cardiovascular Problems

Despite claims of long-term cardiovascular benefits, semaglutide users have reported experiencing heart palpitations, chest pain, and electrolyte imbalances. While the drugs may offer some protective effects against heart disease, these potential benefits are overshadowed by the more immediate and serious risks, including the possibility of developing deadly cancers.

5. Sagging Skin

Beyond the internal risks, users of Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro often report an unintended cosmetic consequence: sagging skin. Rapid weight loss can lead to loose, dry, wrinkled skin, commonly referred to as “Ozempic face” or “Ozempic butt.” This side effect not only affects appearance but can also impact self-esteem, making users look older than they are.

Moreover, the financial burden of these drugs is significant. Ozempic, for example, typically costs over $1,000 per month and requires weekly injections. And perhaps most concerning of all, some studies suggest that most people regain the weight they lost after discontinuing the medication.

If you’re searching for a natural and more sustainable approach to weight loss, it’s crucial to be fully informed before considering these drugs. Your health is worth more than a quick fix; understanding the potential risks can help you make a more informed decision.

Weight Loss Surgery – Guest Post

Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) is an area that I have a lot of experience in, not only as a nurse, but as a patient. In fact my own personal experince with WLS is one of the big reasons that I became a nurse many years ago.

Some of you may know about my surgery and some of may not, as it is just part of life now and I do not write much about it anymore. Over the past 17 years since my surgery, I have mentored numerous people both pre and post op. I am in many Facebook groups for WLS and I help answer questions when I can when I see people ask about long term results.

Which is why I am beyond excited for my long time friend of over 30 years Teri who is having her WLS on Thursday this week! I cannot wait to see her Rock her WLS journey!

I wish I had more pictures of us from our younger years on my computer, but I was able to find 2 of my favorite ones from 2006 and 2015. Now, I will let Teri share her story with you!

Weight Loss Surgery…I can’t believe it’s finally happening!

“A lifetime of being overweight!  My earliest fat memory is eating cake at a birthday party at the age of 9.  There is a photo of me stuffing a big fat bite in my mouth! I have seen some photos prior to that and I was chunky in them, but not really anything beyond toddler cute chunky.  Honestly though, I can’t recall many photos between the ages of 5 and 9.  But 9, that is MY first real fat memory.  And I am now approaching 47 next month. I have always been a few sizes larger than my friends in school.  They would be a cute 5-7, I was a large 12.  HATED IT!  As an adult, I recall hitting my lowest 142 after a devastating breakup at the age of 20.  Then I recall hitting my next lowest 152 at the age of 35 (and that was post two kids and nursing school skinny).  The highest I recall hitting was post nursing school at 223 at the age of 33.  I did a lot of work to get from that 223 to 152.  It never stuck though. I always lose and gain back more eventually.

I hit my next highest 226 at the age of 42 and post covid high at the age of 46 was 241!

I just CAN’T!  ANYMORE!  Decided I am done!  And I need help!  I am sick of the fucking roller coaster of losing and gaining more and losing less and gaining even more!  It is SO bad for my body.  I am one of the lucky ones so far though! I am borderline hypertensive at times without a diagnosis and border hypertriglyceridemia without a diagnosis and basically borderline prediabetic, also without a diagnosis.  As a nurse, I know what values to watch.  Never had a doctor mention those things to me, but I see my numbers creeping up!  And damn, as an ER and PACU nurse, I have seen what diabetes and hypertension and high cholesterol can do!  Hypertension leads to strokes.  I do not fucking want one of those!  Hyperlipidemia can lead to cardiac cath, ehhh, that’s not soooo bad but bypass, yeah no thanks! And diabetes that shit leads to peripheral neuropathy and amputations and sores that never heal!  Hell to the NO! I am STOPPING this shit before that shit happens!  And I have proven I just CANNOT do it on my own!  So RNY here we come!

Currently, two pounds over my set goal weight by my doctor, so freaking a bit about that! Liquid diet, lots of water and laxatives are happening!  Awaiting my covid test result…that crap better be NEGATIVE!  I have been fighting that crud off with the FLCCC protocol for months now.

I am excited!! Last week I was anxious, nervous and teary-eyed as all heck!  More to come on that and why I chose the RNY over the Sleeve later!  For now….work-since I won’t be doing any of that for a short bit after tomorrow!

Surgery is 11/11/21.  That’s a sweet date!  Prayerfully, a lucky, safe one too!”

You can follow Teri’s WLS Journey on Instagram and her Blog

Teri – I am SO Freaking Proud of You and Excited to see you Crush your Goals!!! WLS was life changing for me and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!!! I Love You! 💗

Summer Essentials

Everything you need to know about using essential oils this Summer!

Hello friends! ☀️

I am so excited you’re joining me to learn more about how to incorporate oils into your summer routines! I’ve got you covered with the most important do’s and don’ts & some fun DIY summer essentials you will love! You will leave this class feeling empowered to make safe and healthy choices for your family all summer long! You don’t need to compromise, which is why I can’t wait to share my favorite Young Living products that help me eliminate toxins! So happy to have you here! Let’s get started. ✨

⌓ We are told over & over again to protect our skin with SPF. Yet, despite the increased awareness around sun exposure, the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the U.S. continues to be skin cancer. So it stands to reason that the kind of sunscreen we use matters. Skincare starts
with knowing what ingredients are in your products. So let’s dive in!
Do you know how sunscreen works? It is kind of like your smartphone, right? You don’t know how exactly it works, you just know it does. Well, let me drop some knowledge on you. The most common sunscreens have chemicals like avobenzone, oxybenzone, ecamsule, and octocrylene which absorb UV light to prevent your skin from burning. Recent studies have shown that these chemicals are actually absorbed by the skin and can be detected in the bloodstream after use. This presents the potential for system toxicity. Instead, using a barrier sunscreen with ingredients like zinc oxide, blocks UV rays, rather than absorbing them.

Avoid: avobenzone, oxybenzone, retinyl palmitate, parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals,
PABA, artificial colors & synthetic fragrances 🚫
Use: zinc oxide or titanium dioxide

Alternative Products – Young Living Sunscreen

⌓ So you’re probably wondering what type of sunscreen is going to be safe for you to use this summer? Let me tell you about Young Living Mineral Sunscreen and why it’s different. Like I mentioned above, the best sunscreens are ones that use UV-blocking ingredients and are barrier sunscreens. But it’s important to know that many “natural sunscreens” on the market use nanoparticle-sized ingredients to create a formula that goes on smoothly and that won’t leave a white cast. But, these particles are so small that they can still enter the bloodstream. When Young
Living set out to formulate their sunscreen, they knew the barrier approach was the right direction, but they also ensured that non-nano zinc oxide was part of that formula. They then packed it with skin-loving essential oils like Helichrysum, Lavender, Myrrh, Carrot Seed, and Frankincense. This magic formula is lightweight, yet provides powerful protection. 🏝

But we all know that even the most diligent of sunscreeners can end up with some over-exposed skin. When that happens, I have you covered with the perfect after-sun spray! ⌓

DIY: After-Sun Spray ☀️
What You Need:

● 8 oz glass spray bottle
● 15 drops Lavender
● 15 drops Peppermint
● 1⁄2 cup Witch Hazel
● 2 Tbsp Aloe Vera gel
● 2 Tbsp fractionated Coconut Oil

Directions: Mix ingredients together in a spray bottle, shake it up & spritz onto overheated or over-exposed skin. For extra relief, leave the bottle in the refrigerator for an added cooling effect!

Summer Safety Tips

⌓ While there are some essential oils you will want to keep with you all summer long, there are some that you need to use with caution. They are called photosensitive oils. Compounds in these oils greatly increase UV sensitivity. They’re most commonly found in citrus oils. The good news is
that Young Living labels all of its oils and blends that cause photosensitivity. The best way to keep your skin safe is to avoid applying these oils before sun exposure. Instead, apply them at night time or cover the application area before going out in the sun.

Here is a quick reference list of photosensitive oils: Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit, Orange, Bergamot, Tangerine, Peace & Calming, Stress Away, Citrus Fresh, Gentle Baby, and Joy!

And while you want to avoid application of these oils before sun exposure, you can diffuse them in your home all day long!

Below is a Summer Diffuser Blend that is sure to brighten up your day! ⌓

Diffuser Blend:
Squeeze the Day 🍊
● 2💧Jade Lemon
● 2💧Myrrh
● 2💧Citrus Fresh
● 2💧Tangerine
● 3💧Cedarwood

The Perfect Summer Sidekick

⌓ There are lots of Summer essential oils that I love, but there is one that makes my “can’t live without it” list. With its bright, lemony scent, this oil doesn’t just smell great but it’s also effective in repelling pesky insects! I’m talking, of course, about Citronella. This oil is steam-distilled from the Citronella plant and contains geraniol, which is a property that helps to fend of bugs. Whether you are wearing it topically or using it to make great DIY candles, outdoor sprays, or repellent sprays this should be your summer go-to oil! ⌓

DIY: Repellent Spray 🚫
What You Need

● 2 oz distilled water
● 1.5 oz Witch Hazel
● 30 drops Citronella
● 25 drops Peppermint
● 15 drops Tea Tree

Directions: Mix ingredients together in a spray bottle, shake it up & spritz the mix onto your
body before heading into the great outdoors! ⛰
Diffuser Hack: Bugs hate any type of citrus oils – set up a diffuser outside to keep the bugs
away!
Bug Repellent Blend:
● 4💧Citronella
● 4💧Lemon

Love Your Summer Locks!

⌓ Let’s talk about summer hair! If you are like me, your hair is in a ponytail most of the summer. Let’s be honest, no one wants to battle the heat and humidity! But between hair ties and sun damage, your hair can become dry and brittle during this season. So let me tell you why Cedarwood & Rosemary need to be part of your Summer Essential Oils list! Cedarwood helps maintain the appearance of healthy-looking hair while Rosemary boosts shine and helps control frizz. With this DIY Mermaid Hair Spray, you can nourish your hair without any harsh chemicals & give your hair a break from the hair tie! ⌓

DIY: Mermaid Hair Spray
What You Need:

● 8 oz glass spray bottle
● 2 cups distilled water
● 1.5 oz Witch Hazel
● 15 drops Lavender
● 15 drops Rosemary
● 15 drops Cedarwood

Directions: Spray directly onto hair after your shower or when it is damp. Use your hands to scrunch hair, giving it that beachy, wavy look! Bonus: your hair doubles as a natural diffuser so you will smell like a mermaid all day, too!

Stay Hydrated!

⌓ We all know that the sun can deplete us of necessary energy and water, which is why it is essential for us to be intentional about staying hydrated throughout the summer. Make it a habit by using an app or setting reminders on your phone. Keep water handy by picking up a cute
container that makes it easy to grab & go. And, don’t hesitate to mix it up! Try adding a few drops of your favorite Vitality Oils like Lemon or Citrus Fresh! If you haven’t tried YL’s Vitality drops, let me tell you why it needs to be on your Summer Essentials list. Just one squeeze into 8 oz of water will provide you with an all-natural pick-me-up made from a naturally-sourced caffeine blend of Brazilian Guarana Seed Extract and Green Tea. It’s an easy and refreshing way to stay hydrated with bright and citrus flavors. The best part is that it is free from artificial colors, sweeteners, and flavors! You can also try out this delicious mocktail! ✨ ⌓

DIY: Cucumber Lemon Cooler
What You Need:
● 1⁄2 cucumber, sliced
● 2-3 drops Lemon Vitality
● 1 lemon, juiced
● 1 Tbsp honey
● 4 oz sparkling water
Directions: Mix ingredients together & pour over ice for a refreshing mocktail! 🍹

Diffuser Blend:
Summer Sunrise:

● 3💧 Grapefruit
● 4💧 Tangerine
● 2💧 Lavender

Spike Protein and Pine Essential Oil

Lets discuss Spike Proteins and Pine Essential Oil.

Spike proteins are glycoproteins that bind to Angiotensin Complex Receptors (ACE-2) in the human body. The areas that have amounts of ACE-2 are the Lungs, Kidneys, and Vascular System. Therefore, once spike proteins bind to ACE-2 the cytokine storm begins and the organs are affected. Spike proteins allow viruses to penetrate the host cells and cause infection. Viruses must be able to break into cells to be able to set up an infection. Viruses gain entry by using the now notorious spike protein, like typical of viruses, spike proteins must hijack our own biology to open the lock. Spike proteins work like keys, as they can change shape to interact with a protein on the surface of human cells. Those spike proteins then latch the virus onto a cell allowing them to get entry into those cells.

“SARS-CoV-2 is an RNA virus with four structural proteins. One of them, the Spike protein is a surface protein which binds the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE-2) present on host cells. Therefore, the Spike protein is considered a relevant antigen for v development.” citing can be found here

C is primarily a disease of the vascular system and not the respiratory system, the main culprit is the spike protein. In Fact Myocarditis and Pericarditis is being reported following mRNA C – V.  There has been 1,087 reported cases of Myocarditis and Pericarditis as of June 4th.

However, at this time, there is no Approved V that is currently in EUA throughout the world.

New Approach to V’s

mRNA v’s are a new type of v to protect against infectious diseases. To trigger an immune response, many v put a weakened or inactivated germ into our bodies, Not mRNA v. Instead, they teach our cells how to make a protein—or even just a piece of a protein—that triggers an immune response inside our bodies. That immune response, which produces antibodies, is what protects us from getting infected if the real virus enters our bodies.

Not only do the Non Approved V’s contain Spike Proteins, they also contain Polyethylene Glycol (PEG), which is the most common plastic in use today. It is a polymer, primarily used for packaging. PEG is being questioned as the possible culprit for anaphylaxis after vaccination.

Ingredients of Spike Protein V’s can be found Here

Pine 🌲 Essential Oil is Steam Distilled from the needles of the tree.

Pine contains 7 different Chemical Compounds Classes and the main one is Monoterpenes.

In fact, Pine Essential Oil is roughly 80% Monoterpenes!

Therefore, it contains More Monoterpenes than Frankincense!

Monoterpenes are the balancing parts of an oil, the organizers and the peacemakers.

Pine was first investigated by Hippocrates for its benefits to the respiratory system. Pine shares many of the same properties as Eucalyptus Globulus and the action of both oils are enhanced when blended. Native Americans stuffed mattresses with pine needles to repel lice and fleas. Pine was used to treat lung infections and added to baths to revitalize those suffering from mental or emotional fatigue. Main uses of Pine EO are Throat/Lung/Sinus Infections, Rheumatism/Arthritis, Skin Parasites, and UTI’s.

Did you know that Pine Needles contain both Vitamin C and Shikimic Acid?

In fact Pine needles contain 3 to 6 times the amount of Vitamin C of an orange as well as various amino acids.

The nutritional need of a full grown man is just under 100mg vitamin C a day.

Oranges 0.45mg/g
Lemons 0.53mg/g
Limes 0.29mg/g

So eating an average Orange a day is about 80% of your vitamin C requirement.

“USDA Forestry Service Research Note SE-124 “Seasonal changes in carbohydrates and ascorbic acid of white pine and possible relation to Tipburn sensitivity” found an Ascorbic acid range of 0.72 to 1.87mg/g

Pine needles also more Shikimic Acid than Star Anise (Used in Tamiflu) which some use to protect against viral aliments.

Shikimic acid is used as a precursor for the synthesis of oseltamivir phosphate (Tamiflu®), which is used as an anti-viral for the H5N1 strain. As concern for this virus increases, demand for medicinal products capable of treating it increases, while shikimic acid resources remain limited. In this study, for the first time shikimic acid is extracted from pine needles using water at relatively low temperature. After the subsequent evaporation, column adsorption/desorption and crystallization processes, shikimic acid crystals with a purity of over 98 % are obtained. A total recovery of approximately 85 % is reached, with the highlights of the method being simplicity, low cost and industrial practicality.” Citings can be found Here

“Healing Ethnobotanical Uses

The information provided below is intended for educational purposes only. Please contact your local licensed herbalists for safe and proper medicinal uses of this plant.

Native American Medicine

The Nations of the Adirondacks (meaning “tree eaters”) ate the inner bark of White Pines (Pinus strobus) as one of their primary winter foods. During the first winter in the “New World”, many colonists died of scurvy, caused by a severe lack of vitamin C. Native American’s offered the recipe of pine needle tea. (Weed) Pine needles are now known to manufacture large concentrations of vitamins A and C. “It has been estimated that a cupful of strong pine needle tea has more vitamin C than the average lemon.” (Vitale) Boiled mashed inner bark, and pine tar salve was used to heal injuries. Dried needles were placed in open jars to sweeten home environments.

Essential oil of pine is classified as a “middle note”; that is, its energetic effect is neither stimulating nor sedating, but rather it works to regulate and modify out of balance conditions. (Yuen) Applications include use on acupressure points and drops in hot water to create medicinal vapors. Pine oil is effective in treating diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract, and for rheumatic and neuralgic ailments. (Blumenthal, American Botanical Council)

Current Scientific Research

The Agricultural Research Database notes the following area of research in uses of White Pine (Pinus strobus).

Antitussive, Burn, Demulcent, Diuretic, Dysentery, Expectorant, Itch, Laxative, Myalgia, Rheumatism, Swelling, and Wound.

Research now in process is investigating the use of stanol esters derived from pine trees to reduce total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. (Herb Research Foundation, The Tan Sheet, June 5, 2000.)

Actions: Antiseptic, Decongestant, Disinfectant, Expectorant, Tonic.” Citing can be found HERE

“There is a direct relationship between Suramin (the isolated extract), pine needle tea (a hot water extract of the pine, fir, cedar, and spruce needles), and pine oil (which is derived from the needles though an essential oil steam distillation process). All three are derived from the properties of the conifer needle.” Citing can be found HERE

Suramin

“Compared to the earlier highly pathogenic SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has much greater transmissibility and has therefore caused a pandemic rather than a local outbreak. Suramin is a drug that has been used to treat African sleeping sickness and river blindness for over a hundred years. Suramin has also been shown to be an inhibitor against a wide variety of viruses, including Zika and Chikungunya viruses, indicating its diverse mechanisms of action against multiple viruses.

For instance, it can prevent viral attachment, entry, and release from host cells by its interactions with viral capsid proteins. Recent research has shown it to be an in vitro inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2 infection in cell culture by preventing viral entry. The current study shows this to be due to its potent inhibition of SARS-CoV-2 RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), an essential viral lifecycle enzyme. Suramin is 20 or more times as powerful as remdesivir, which is the only currently approved anti-COVID-19 drug.” Citing can be found HERE

After moving to a hobby farm with a well and septic tank, I started looking for ways to reduce the chemicals we use on a daily basis.

One of the things I started doing was being more mindful of what we wash our dishes with.

Loading your dishwasher with store bought powder detergent means you will clean your dishes with chlorine bleach, phosphates, fragrance and other unknown chemicals.

From cancer concerns to nervous system effects and ecotoxicity, chemical detergent has too many things wrong with it.

When we ran out of the chemical free dishwasher powder we have been using for years, I refused to buy something off a store shelf.

So, I started looking for a DIY that I could make here at home with things we already had.

In my search, I found a few different recipes and created one that works great for us!

DIY Dishwasher Recipe:
4 cups organic washing soda
1 cup Himalayan salt
2 cups Citric Acid
1 capful of Thieves Cleaner
30 drops Lemon EO

Large mason jar and/or silicone mold, like this one

Instructions:
Mix washing soda, citric acid, and salt in a bowl
Add 30 drops Lemon essential oil
Add Thieves cleaner, slowly, until the mix holds its shape in your hand

Once combined, you have the option of making powdered dishwasher detergent or tablets.
For making powdered dishwasher detergent, let sit for 18 – 24 hours to dry. Once dry, pulse in food processor to break up any chunks and add to a cute mason jar.

For making tablets, ress into the mold and let dry for 18 – 24 hours. Once dry, pop out and put into a cute mason jar.

Cleanse your skin with the 6 best oils.

YL-cleanse-skin-300x126

I know it sounds absurd that oils can help cleanse delicate facial skin — as we usually shy away from any product that might make our skin oily. How can essential oils work as skin cleansers? Can they really cleanse and promote the appearance of healthy-looking skin? And while we’re at it, can you put essential oils directly on your skin? The answer to all these questions is a resounding YES!

How to harness the cleansing power of essential oils

Adding essential oils to your skin care routine is easier than you think! Here are a handful of ways you can use  six skin-cleansing favorites.

  • Add 1-2 drops of essential oil to your face wash every morning for daily cleansing.
  • Mix a penny-size amount of raw honey with 1 drop of oil in your hand. Massage over your face and let sit 5-10 minutes before rinsing.
  • Combine ½ cup of colloidal oatmeal with 7 drops of essential oil. Stir well. To use, mix ½-1 teaspoon of your new facial wash with a little water and apply it to wet skin. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Blend 1 drop of oil with 4 drops of V-6™ Vegetable Oil Complex and use a cotton ball to apply the solution to your freshly washed face.
  • Create your own facial mist spray with 2 ounces of water and 10-20 drops of essential oil.
  • Make a DIY toner by filling a 3-ounce glass bottle with witch hazel and adding 10-15 drops of oil. Shake before applying with a cotton ball.

Instant Pot Popcorn!!

Do you ever crave popcorn, but cringe when you think of the price of pre made popcorn? Or Even WORSE, making microwave popcorn? o.O

Well, if you have an Instant Pot and you LOVE Popcorn like I do, then this recipe will Rock your Socks off!!! 🙂

I can still remember when my parents got their first microwave in the 70’s and just how amazing it was! And THEN Microwave popcorn hit the shelfs around 1981!!! OMG! Am I dating myself or WhAt???? 😉

Little did we know in the early 80’s that the convenience of popping popcorn in the microwave and jumping for joy when it was finished, would be so bad for our health!!!

You see the Bag that keeps all of that yellow whatchamacallit stuff and kernels of popcorn is lined with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). Can you even say that? I know I can’t!! Which takes you back to what I always say about ingredients, “If you cannot pronounce it, you should not be putting it in or on your body!” Also, this chemical is the same toxic stuff that is found in teflon pots and pans that are super bad for us also!!!

Now lets talk what is inside the toxic bags! Things like Trans Fat, Proply Gallate, TBHQ which is short for Tertiary Butylhydroquinone. Trans fats are considered one of the worst fats we can consume and may not even be on the label if their content is less than 0.5 grams, so it is labeled as “Trans Fat Free”. However, even if 1 serving is less than 0.5 grams, what does the entire bag have in it????? Proply Gallate is a preservative that is used in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals and it is linked to all sorts of things like breathing problems, skin rashes, and stomach issues. And TBHQ is a chemical that is made from BUTANE gas!! If the chemical name on a label is abbreviated, you have to stop and think about just how bad that really is for you and TBHQ is very bad!! TBHQ is linked to ADHD, allergies, asthma, dermatitis and dermatitis!!! And to top off the list of unsafe things inside the toxic bag, the manufactures add artificial color and flavors to hide all of the chemicals!!!

Um! No Thanks!!! And this my friends, is WHY I make my own Popcorn at home in our Instant Pot in about the same time as it takes to make a bag of toxiccorn! AND! You can make numerous batches of yummy popcorn at home for about the same price as 1 bag of pre popped popcorn! Now that is a Win- Win in my book!!

Ingredients

1/2 Cup popcorn kernels – organic is best

2 Tbsp coconut oil – organic virgin is best  (MCT oil can be used in place if you are worried about a coconut taste, however, a good quality coconut oil will not give a coconut taste.)

Himalayan salt to taste

Optional

2 Tbsp butter – Kerry Gold is what we like

Directions

Turn Instant Pot on to the Saute (High) setting. Allow 5 minutes for  the temperature to get high.

Add coconut oil and let it completely melt. Turn the Instant Pot and swirl around the coconut oil to completely cover the bottom of the pan. Make sure the oil is sizzling hot before adding the popcorn kernels (put a drop a water to check that it sizzles). NOTE: If you skip this step, the popcorn will stick to the bottom and burn.

Add popcorn kernels and use a wood spoon to coat the popcorn well. Stir for about 30 seconds. Cover with a clear Instant Pot lid with vent hole to allow air and steam to escape.

It will take about 2 minutes for the popcorn to start popping. Do NOT take off the lid. Use the lid to see when most of the popcorn is popped and listen for the popping to decrease (about 3-4 minutes), and then turn it off (letting the rest of the kernels pop for another 30 seconds or so). Be careful to not let it burn.

Using a potholder, remove the lid and then take out the inner pot. Pour the popcorn into a large bowl and let it sit for about 2-3 minutes to let the coconut oil set in. This adds to the flavor.

Add butter (optional) and salt to taste.

Recipe Notes

Coconut oil will make the best popcorn because it’s a high heat oil. It also adds a lot of flavor.

If you find that your popcorn kernels aren’t popping, it could be the age or quality of the kernels. Try a different brand or batch of popcorn.

If you try this, please let me know how you like it!

Bloom!

IMG_0866
Are you Blooming where you are planted? 💕

Some of us are able to bloom where are planted at an early age. 🌸

However, many of us have to go through the trenches before we begin to bloom. 🌷

And sadly, there are some that are never able to bloom. 🥀

We are designed by God to bloom and it can take hard work to dig deep before we begin to sprout our roots. 🌱

If you are not blooming where you are in life today, take a moment and ask yourself where you see yourself in a year. 🤔

If you feel like you need change, do something to begin that change. 💐

Not everyone is going to make drastic changes to change, but some might need them before change can take force.🌻

I am one that needed major changes before I sprouted my roots and began to bloom. 🌺

If you are thinking you are ready to bloom, but need a little guidance, send me a message and I will be happy to help get your roots sprouted. ❤️
